History and Ethos

Our four GP partners are complimented by a team of highly qualified and skilled clinical staff, including Salaried GPs, Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants.

The Practice is managed by Fran Upshon, the Practice Manager who is assisted by a Deputy Practice Manager and a team of reception and administration support staff.

History

The Practice was originally founded in 1957 and run by Dr Collins from the Dock Hall Club, further patients joined the Practice from Dr. Clifford’s surgery when it closed and the Practice relocated to new premises at the old butcher’s shop on Portishead High Street. The Practice ran from here until 1977 when it then moved into Portishead Health Centre. Dr. Collins retired in 1994 and the Practice was then run by Dr. Denton. Dr. Hardy joined the Practice in 1997 and was a GP there until 2001 when Dr. Chan took over the responsibility. She was joined by Dr. Allinson in 2002 and the Practice became a Partnership in 2007. They operated from a temporary building until they moved into the new, purpose built, Marina Healthcare Centre in 2009. In 2013, Dr. Johns joined the Partnership. In 2016 Dr. Ward joined the partnership. The Partners are assisted by a number of salaried doctors who are permanent employees of the organisation.

Our Philosophy

Despite the rate of growth in recent years, we have tried to retain the friendliness of a small practice. The practice is run as a team with a free exchange of ideas and expertise. We pride ourselves as having a friendly relationship with our neighbouring practice and are in regular contact with our consultant colleagues, both of which undoubtedly lead to a better service for our patients.

The Harbourside Family Practice is a team of dedicated professionals, many of whom have weathered the changes and uncertainties facing the practice in years gone by, but have always continued to strive to offer a first rate service to our patients. We are facing many challenges in the coming years which offer exciting opportunities to develop and improve the practice.
